For people suffering from heart failure, and there are many, a new campaign to encourage them to adopt healthy habits has just been launched in France by the National Health Insurance Fund (Assurance Maladie).
Four good habits to prevent worsening
Moving every day, weighing yourself regularly, following your treatment plan and keeping your medical appointments, and limiting salt intake—these four good habits for people with heart failure are at the heart of this new campaign.
Heart failure affects more than one million people in France, mostly seniors, and is the cause of many deaths each year. It is also the leading cause of hospitalization for people over 65. It is a very serious illness, often diagnosed quite late, "but one with which you can live longer and in good health if you adopt healthy habits," explained Marguerite Cazeneuve, Deputy Director of the National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam).

Two years ago, the French National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam) launched a campaign on the four warning signs of heart failure (shortness of breath, weight gain, swelling of the feet and ankles, and excessive fatigue). This new campaign, launched ahead of World Heart Day on September 29, focuses this year on the best practices to adopt following a diagnosis.
To encourage and motivate those affected, four patients, each with a helpful tip, share their experiences in a video on the ameli.fr website. Tools are also available to help you adopt and maintain these healthy behaviors.
